I saw an Instagram post several weeks ago, saying what plants you should burn in place of sage or palo santo if you are a “non-indigenous” healer. I deeply honor the intention to use these plant allies in right relationship and to respect indigenous traditions. I also see value in exploring plant allies more closely associated to one’s blood lineage for this lifetime (rather than the indigenous cultures you may have been a part of in other lifetimes).
I invite us to also remember that it is every human’s Divine birthright to commune with and seek guidance directly from these plant consciousnesses. So, if you question your ethical use of sage/palo santo, for example--you can ask the plant consciousness directly. This is within your natural ability, and the plant allies rejoice in your personal connection to them.
If you are unsure how to begin this process, I offer an example ceremony below. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest. Your inner wisdom is your greatest guide.
Consecrate your space. Prepare your altar, clear the energy in the room, play a singing bowl, set up light grids, call upon angels/allies, etc. Do whatever you feel makes the space sacred and holy.
Set your intention. E.g. “I intend to seek guidance from the original, authentic blueprint of Palo Santo. May I be a clear vessel for Source Intelligence. May I listen with humility. May the information I receive be in alignment with my Higher Self consciousness, in service to the greatest good of all.”
Invoke the plant ally consciousness. E.g. “I call upon the spirit of Palo Santo now.”
Offer gratitude. E.g. “Thank you, Palo Santo, for communing with me at this time. Thank you for all that you do and all that you are. I honor you.”
Ask your questions. E.g. “How might we create a relationship? May I use your medicine in my ceremonies? How would you like to work with me? How can I remain in right relationship with you? Who is an ethical source to purchase from?”
Listen intently after each question. What are your impressions? What do you see, hear, feel, sense? Be patient. You are doing perfectly. If there is silence, sit there. Silence is rich with wisdom.
When you feel complete, thank the plant ally once again and close the circle.
